POS System for Gadget and Electronics Shops
Gadgets POS is a gadget shop POS system built for shops that sell phones, tablets, consoles, accessories and other electronics. Scan-first checkout makes the till quick, serial numbers are tracked where they matter, labels print on demand, and repairs and trade-ins sit on the same system as your sales and your web shop.
Last reviewed:A gadget shop POS system: what it needs to do
A gadget shop sells a mix that a standard retail till struggles with. A £5 cable and a £900 phone are both on the shelf; one needs a barcode and a quantity, the other needs an IMEI or a serial number. Customers return things, bring in old devices and ask whether you can fix what they bought elsewhere.
The right POS lets you handle both ends of that range without slowing the queue. If your range leans towards phones, read the page on the POS system for mobile phone shops. This page is for the broader gadget and electronics shop.
Scan-first checkout for accessories and devices
Scan the barcode and the item goes onto the order. Products that you sell most can be pinned to a hot list for one-tap selling, and you can switch between a card view and a list view. Payments can be split between cash, card, bank transfer and gift card, orders can be put on hold, and receipts print or email.
Returns and replacements go on the same order as a sale. The till asks whether a returned item was faulty, so you can decide whether it goes back on the shelf.
Serial numbers where they matter
You choose product by product whether an item is serialised. A phone, a laptop or a games console can carry a serial or IMEI on each unit, so the unit sold is the unit you recorded. A phone case or a charger is simply counted. Stock is costed first in, first out, so margin reflects what each purchase cost, and stock records are never deleted.
See IMEI inventory software for the detail on serialised stock.
Barcode and label printing
Print barcode labels for stock that does not come with one, and labels with the serial or IMEI for stock that does. Labels print on Zebra and DYMO label printers, and you can show storage, RAM and processor from the product on the label. Receipts use thermal printers on 58, 72 and 80 mm paper, or A4. For the counter we supply a 15.6-inch touch-screen terminal, an 80 mm receipt printer and a 2D barcode scanner at one-off prices: see touch screen POS hardware and barcode scanners.
Gift cards, vouchers and loyalty points
Sell and redeem gift cards, issue vouchers that expire, and let customers earn loyalty points that turn into reward vouchers. Loyalty cards can be printed. Gift cards expire after six months by default and vouchers after one month by default, and you can change the rates and tiers. The detail is on loyalty, gift cards and vouchers.
Repairs and trade-ins as an extra counter
Many gadget shops add a repair bench or a trade-in desk because customers ask for it. In Gadgets POS these are not add-ons from another supplier: a repair job, a trade-in and a sale can all share one order and one receipt. Parts are kept as lab items, separate from the stock you sell, and traded-in devices go into stock under their own serial numbers. See phone repair shop software, trade-in software and, for computers, POS for computer and laptop shops.
Your online shop
If you want to sell online as well, the Buy section of the web shop reads the same product and stock records as the till, so a gadget sold at the counter stops being available on the website. The shop is set up for you by our team and runs on your own domain. Read more on POS with an online shop.
Questions from gadget shop owners
Can it handle products with and without serial numbers?
Yes. You choose, product by product, whether an item is serialised. Phones, laptops and consoles can carry a serial number or IMEI on each unit, while accessories are simply counted by quantity. Both kinds go through the same till and the same orders, and both are costed first in, first out.
Can I print barcode labels?
Yes. You can print barcode labels for products that lack one, and labels with an IMEI or serial barcode for serialised stock, on Zebra and DYMO label printers. Labels can show storage, RAM and processor from the product. We have not tested every printer model, so tell us what you have in a demo.
Does it sell gift cards?
Yes. You can sell and redeem gift cards at the till, issue vouchers with an expiry, and run loyalty points with reward vouchers. By default gift cards expire after six months and vouchers after one month, and you can change loyalty rates and tiers. Loyalty cards can be printed.
Can I sell online?
Yes, with a web shop. The Buy section sells your products online from the same product and stock records as the till. Our team sets the shop up with you on your own domain, and you choose which sections to switch on. Payments run through gateways such as Stripe, Square, PayPal and myPOS.
